You Spin Me Round Like a Record Baby.

I'm getting really tired of having so much hair. I know, it's only chin-length but I miss my rad pixie cuts and fauxhawks. It's only a matter of time really....

Until I chop it off enjoy some photos while it's still long(ish).

These were taken at Vinal Edge Record Store on Veterans Memorial in Houston. Go there. They have so many rad vinyls. I was tempted to buy some after the shoot was over.

Someone Actually Wrote This About Me.

The person shall remain nameless, but I almost cried when I read it because most people can only hope to be seen like this through someone else's eyes...
I'm completely undeserving and as flattered as a human being can possibly be.

"At this moment, I feel the need to write this note about one of my favorite people ever. I know she's probably going to read this and think that I'm putting her on a pedestal, but how can I not? I'm attempting to write this without irony, but simply put: she is better than us. I mean, just look at her. Luckily, for those of us that notice, she is beautiful on the outside. She is a model/actress/goddess/bartender. And that seems pretty cool.

I'm going to try tosum her up in the three basic stages I've seen her in:

1. Cute Roxy: Fucking cute cute cute. Puppies, babies, retarded kids and all other things cute have nothing on this display. Jeepers!
One simple example: I skipped classes one day. The responses; Friend 1: slaps me, Friend 2: self-righteous as usual, Roxy: high fives all around.
Fuck Yes! When she feels like it, she can turn on that fountain of charm. She turns on the cute switch and us boys, for a few moments, are in her control. I don't want to meet the type of person who doesn't enjoy this. Cuteness all around. And I can't get enough.

2. The Lioness: "Miller Lite" (instead of 'Can I have a Miller Lite?'),
"Did you do that on purpose or did somebody play a prank on you?" (about her hair). "Something, something, something you fucking dike."
These idiots have no fucking idea of the power they are toying with. She does all in her power to keep from incinerating these dickbags from any of the ninja/samurai/some cool third thing moves she keeps hidden way up her sleeve. It's all Roxy. She knows it's not polite to completely fuck your shit up so she holds it back. Sometimes, it hurts her inside. The price of being a goddess.
Another example: After a particularly stupid night, I became a damaged person. Roxy was informed. She hugged me for what felt like hours. I felt like a person again.

3. The New God: That's a pretty huge title but i'll attempt an explanation. Photographers/producers/directors: they're all over that shit. And who could blame them? They want to capture the essence of what they think is a perfect person. If only they knew how right they were. Her curse is that she is also beautiful on the outside. I mean, fuck. Yep. There's no way around that. She is a female Adonis. Whatever that is. Perhaps Roxy's only flaw. But who could blame her? Would you fault Charles Bronson for being a fucking badass, or Winston Churchill for saving western civilization? Wait. Oh. You would. Really? Nevermind then."

Vamping Out.

What is the world coming to? People read one little 7th grade reading level vampire series and suddenly, they think they are scholars on Vampire Lore. Yes I'm talking about the pop culture phenomenon known as Twilight.

Let me start by saying, I have not read the Twilight saga. I prefer to keep it above a 7th grade reading level, thanks. I did however, read a lot about the novels and their plots and see the movie. (I just had to know what all the fuss was about.) And the fuss was about pretty much nothing if you ask me.

Twilight
is basically a rip off of a thousand other better vampire stories. Only, Twilight has the fun little distinction of also being a veil for Mormon Abstinence Propaganda. The main character is a mousy little chick with no personality to speak of. She's simply a placeholder for girls to project their own personalities onto. This works especially well for young girls with little self-esteem. It's all a metaphor for girls who weren't pretty enough to get the hot guys in high school. The vampire is the jock. The girl is the smart, artsy chick that no one understands. I'm talking to you, Stephenie Meyer.

This rant is the result of a funny little argument I had recently with a couple friends. These friends claimed that Edward, the vampire star of Twilight would win in a fight with the Vampire Blade (who happens to have dedicated his entire life to being a super efficient Vampire hunter with all of their strengths and none of their weaknesses.) I know, I laughed too.

It got pretty heated, and my brain almost exploded. Since I was 12 years old I have done extensive research and studies on Vampire Lore. I endured relentless teasing in school because I wore a T-shirt with blood spray on it that said "Drink from me and live forever." Thank you, Lestat. I've spent years reading vampire fiction and if asked, will gladly name all of the ways that Twilight unoriginally rips off a dozen other vampire novels, short stories and films.

My point, and I do have one...is I don't mind if people enjoy Twilight. Have at it. Just don't expect me to enjoy it with you, or even have a shred of respect for it.

New York Doll.

Hello Loves!

Last night I returned from my trip to New York City and I slept for 16 hours. That should tell you how exhausted I am! When you live in Houston, you get in your car to drive a quarter-mile. In NY, you walk....everywhere.

The weather was gorgeous in New York and Natalie, Crys, Melissa and I had a fabulous time shopping, eating delicious food, and drinking wine all night long! I also had a photoshoot with New York photographer Brian Burk and I'll post those images very soon!

We stayed in Park Slope, a lovely trendy neighborhood in Brooklyn. We went to the Guggenheim, Times Square, Central Park and tons of other awesome NY sites. I bought some one-of-a-kind designer fashion in SoHo and some awesomely junky trinkets in Chinatown.

All in all, it was a fun, fabulous trip and I can't wait to go back!

Now enjoy some photographic highlights...

It's My Life.

Pretty much sums it up. Figuratively, anyway.

Dedicated to all the men in my life...

The Aviator

My computer is between two floor-to-ceiling windows. I never open the blinds. Mostly because I live my life in the dark hours. Right now though, it's that moment in the morning when the sun is moments from rising. It's dim outside, but the blackness of night has faded away leaving the world with that lovely blue tint. It's like looking through a photo filter. Nothing stirs in my world except for me and the chorus of birds outside that have just begun their morning song.

A few days ago I looked outside and noticed my dog was barking at the ground awkwardly. Just as I opened the door, to my horror, she grabbed the object of her interest in her teeth and flung it across the yard. A bird. It screamed. I screamed. We screamed. I raced over and shooed Violet into the house. I looked down at the frightened little aviator and my heart broke, because I knew...it was going to die. I scooped the little creature up into my hands and carried it out the gate, setting it beneath a tree where my dogs could no longer terrorize it. It saddened me that the bird was probably going to die there in the Texas heat, but I couldn't bear the thought of killing it myself. So I decided that nature would take it's course. I was comfortable with that.

Moments later, my friend Natalie arrives at my house. We chat and look stuff up online for a bit. She tries on some of my clothes for a party. After about an hour, she departs and I jump in the shower to ready myself for the party mentioned above.

I'm feelin' good and lookin' fine when Brooke and Tony arrive to pick me up for a night on the town. As we walk out to my driveway I see the little bird again. Only this time, it's a flattened smear on my driveway. Apparently, Natalie ran over it when she left my house.

I was sad, but also a bit relieved. At least it went quickly and did not have to suffer.

Natalie doesn't know.

Punk Sexy

Two months ago when I decided to get off my ass and take modeling "seriously", I had no idea if anyone would take notice. My worries quickly turned to dust as the offers started pouring in from photographers all over America. I'm not really into running myself all over the map, which is cool because I have gotten the opportunity to work with some respected, world-class photographers right here in Texas!

This past weekend I was lucky enough to be the featured model for the Houston Glamour Club run by kickass photographers BobbyG and Lee of FotoFusion. I had an amazing and educational experience working with the group and am considering participating in future meetups as...a Photographer!

That's right kids. I've picked up a lot of information being in front of the camera and I think I'd like to start seeing what it's like on the other side. Lord knows modeling can't go on forever. But I'm not sad, I'm excited that I may have figured out what I want to be when I grow up!
So, until next time...please enjoy these photos from the shoot.

In My Head at Dawn

Remember John Stamos on Full House? I was a little kid when that show was on, but Uncle Jesse was definitely one of my first crushes. I bring this up because as I was deciding what to wear today, I came across the T-shirt my friend Sky got me for my birthday last year. It's a Jesse and the Rippers shirt. That was Uncle Jesse's band on the show. He sang lead and played guitar until the band broke up and he formed another group in which he played drums and sang. Thank you, Wikipedia.

I opted to wear an Element Skateboards shirt instead of the Jesse & the Rippers shirt, but it got me thinking...

Is anyone else pissed that even though Uncle Jesse wore leather pants and had a totally 80's rock mullet - he and The Rippers played really light -forgive the term- pussy pop? With a name like The Rippers, you'd think they...well...ripped! Sadly, their music was less Whitesnake and more Beach Boys. Sigh. I still love you Jesse Kastopolis.

I'm thinking of taking some time off in July. I find myself overwhelmed with obligations. I haven't been a very good friend lately, and I'm nearly intolderable to be around right now. I have foolishly over commited myself to a lot of projects. It's making me miserable. Today I heard someone say: "If something brings you more unhappiness than happiness - stop doing it."

So I'm putting my foot down. No more people-pleasing. I'm going to have to learn to say no.

But right now I'm saying yes - to sleep. It's a bad sign when you're nodding off at the computer. So Goodnight my Darlings. The sun will be up in less than an hour.

Jean-etically Speaking

Girls will understand this. You know that pair of jeans? The ones that you keep tucked away in hopes that someday you'll fit into them again. Well, today I put mine on - with ease. I haven't been able to wear them since last fall.
Just sharing that because I am proud of myself. It did not come easy. I loathe exercising. I refuse to do it. So instead, I changed my diet. I won't lie to you. It sucks and I would seriously uppercut someone for a slice of chocolate cake right now.

But it was all worth it today when I slipped into those Lucky Brand Jeans and twirled around in front of the mirror. (Topless, of course.) It was also worth it when I posted the last Photo of the Week without any figure help from Photoshop.

And now a message for the guys. I am being told by many of you have not signed up for updates because your girlfriend would get mad at you. I suppose I can respect that. Or I can suggest you do like some of my followers and use a fake name! Let's be sneaky together.

I leave you all now with a photo from a shoot I had last week with the awesome Ron Davis of Reactuate Photography. I had an amazing experience working with him and Makeup Artist Janet Tillsman.

P.S. I do not know how to play the Violin.
Candid, in between shots.

I Shot Myself

Hello My Sugar Plums!

The past few weeks have been a serious whirlwind in RoxyLand. Ever since starting my weblog and joining Model Mayhem the offers have been pouring in. I have photoshoots booked for every weekend in May and June is filling up fast. I'm trying to remember to stay relaxed and not let myself get overwhelmed! Feel free to take me out for a drink, bake me cookies, or just pet my head.

I am just moments away from posting the new Photo of the Week, and I just know you're gonna love it!

Bonus: Today I went out and bought a rad new camera. I decided to experiment with it. I could have taken pretty pictures of flowers, but thought it might be more fun to take my shirt off and photograph myself using the camera's timer. What do you think....?
Now keep in mind, these are not examples of my best photography, but rather me playing around with different exposures and features on my new camera!

The Fairy Shot J.R.

Aren't my friends pretty?

I'm a Woodland Fairy.

Finally asleep.

Hello my Sweets!

I returned today from a fantastical weekend in Dallas, Texas. I'm completely wiped out mentally and physically, but I had so much fun this weekend!

Friday I had the pleasure of working with John of Images in Light Photography in Dallas. We did a very artistic shoot that included lots of wind, nudity and tulle! There was also some satin and chains involved, but you'll get to see the photos soon enough!

That night, I met up at the Hotel with my best friends and we partied our asses off. But not too hard because we had to get up at the ass crack of dawn to get ready for the Scarborough Renaissance Faire. Yes, I am one of those people. The people that talk about and prepare for Ren Fests all year long and then gets dressed to the hilt and spends all day being adored and photographed. Let me put it this way - I rock in the real world, but at Faire - I am a fucking Rock Star.

See my costume in the photo? I handmade that bad boy and I am seriously considering going into business. What do you think?

I slept most of the way on the car ride home today. No easy feat in a Mustang. My entire body aches from posing for photos, dancing around in a costume that probably weighs 20 pounds and saying "Screw my Model diet" by eating tons of delicious Faire food.

I had a 4 hour nap today which has made me no less eager to crawl back in my bed and powersleep for about 12 hours. I leave you with this message:

Thank you so much, those of you who have signed up for updates. Your new job is to tell your friends about this website and get them to sign up too!

I love you all and wish you could smell how sweetly vanilla scented I am right now...

An Overdue Reunion.

My very first photoshoot. circa 2005.

Hello My Darlings,

You can all exhale now because I have finally launched my weblog RoxyVandiver.com! Hooray! It's been a long time coming and I hope to use this site to keep you all updated on my fun and fabulous misadventures.

Yesterday I had an amazing fetish-themed photoshoot with photographer Kenny Haner of
Subsociety.net. It was a reunion that was long overdue. You see, Kenny was the first pro photographer I ever modeled for. We stayed in touch over the years and I watched as his work got more and more fantastic. I found myself wondering if Mr. Big Shot Photographer would have the time of day for little ol' me.

It delights me to report that even though Kenny has done brilliant work on several films, magazines and websites, he was totally game when I asked if he wanted to get together for a shoot.

When we met up at the studio, he got out of a nicer car with nicer equipment, but he was still the laid-back, cool-as-hell guy that I remembered. The guy that went with me to my first strip club and told me, "Pick the prettiest girl here." That's how I got my first lapdance.

Bonus: Through Kenny I got to meet fellow Alternative Model Miss
Sabrina Sin who graces the cover of this month's Culture Asylum Magazine. She was adorable, petite and friendly. I look forward to working with her in the future.

I cannot wait for you all to see the photos from the shoot. I'll keep you posted.
Right now I'm going to cook some dinner and watch Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist.

My arms are around you all...
